Arc Accolades-Achievements
Another round of applause goes to our eighth grade class of 2005 for their OUTSTANDING performance on last year's New York State Standard Examinations. 80% obtained a passing score on the English-Language Arts assessment. Even more notable was the class of 2006's achievement on the Mathematics exam. 97 % attained a passing grade. Not to be outdone, the class of 2008, our fourth grade class also fared extremely well on their state examinations. 80 % realized a passing grade on the English-Language Arts exam while `96 % garnered a passing grade on the Mathematics assessment. It is difficult not to be impressed by this truly `Blue Ribbon" performance. Bravo to both the students and teachers at St. Joan of Arc School. Their efforts confirm the fact that excellence in education is not just an ideal but, an attainable goal.
Arc Accolades-Achievements
Once again a standing ovation is in order for our graduating class. The class of 2005 continued the legacy of academic excellence that has long been associated with a St. Joan of Arc education. Like their predecessors, the accomplishments of the class of 2005 clearly declare that superior achievement is the order of the day at St. Joan of Arc. The following students have honored themselves, their families, and our school by being awarded scholarships:
Ann Charalaivan Raquel Gutierrez Tara Pacheco
George Costi Jennifer Hernandez Chumpon Pimprasmorn
Roisin Fitzgerald Stephanie Jerez Nicholas Veroutis
Ricardo Guevarra Alyssa Locnikar Patrick Walsh
The John J. Kelly Memorial Scholar Athlete Award was conferred on George Costi. This scholarship is presented to a graduate of St. Joan of Arc School who is entering the freshman class of Monsignor McClancy High School in memory of John Kelly, a member of the class of 1984. The Father Stephan Valdazo Scholarship, given by the Hispanic Society of St. Joan of Arc Parish, was bestowed upon Christian Pacheo.
Our congratulations and best wishes for future success to these "Blue Ribbon" scholars and their classmates. We are certain that we will soon be reading of their accomplishments in future editions of Archives
In Memoriam
It is with profound sadness that we bid our final farewell to a long time member of the St. Joan of Arc School and parish community, Mrs. Marguerite DeNatale. Mrs. DeNatale was a resident of Jackson Heights from the age of seven. She had a successful career as a legal secretary to a distinguished attorney and judge. Mrs. DeNatale left the workplace shortly after her marriage in order to raise a family. Her five children are alumni of St.Joan of Arc.
After nurturing her family, Mrs. DeNatale brought her considerable talents and skills to St. Joan of Arc School. For twenty-four years, Mrs. DeNatale served the children of our school; first as librarian and then as secretary to our principal, Mrs. Kelly. Those of us who knew
Mrs. DeNatale (Peggy to her friends) will always remember her ever present smile, professionalism, efficiency, and deep faith. One word comes immediately to mind when one thinks of Mrs. DeNatale - "class". She truly was the embodiment of the expression.
Mrs. DeNatale's husband, Ben, referred to his beloved wife as his "Amazing Grace." Her legacy of commitment to her family, parish, and faith characterized her as an "astonishing" woman. She was a modern woman before the phrase was coined. Her love, gentleness, and generosity personified the term "grace". Mrs. DeNatale was an example of the spirit of St. Joan of Arc to all she came in contact with. We are certain that she is now in heaven doing what she did here on earth- watching over her cherished family and all.
